Devanāgarī is the script of the Sanskrit language, and it translates to “divine city” or “the city of the Gods”. It is the script used to document ancient India's knowledge.

In this module, you will learn how to write and read in Devanāgarī, as well as the alphabet's structure. The systematics of the Devanāgarī alphabet is one of the greatest legacies of ancient Indian society. Additionally, the course will cover the history of the formation of the alphabet in the Purāas and the history of the Sanskrit language.

Each class will be recorded, so if you can't come on a particular Sunday, you will be able to watch the recording and still do your homework and get feedback from the teacher.

Sanskrit is a rare language that balances our brain, equally stimulating the left and right brain hemisphere. Generally, the centre for speech is in the left hemisphere of the brain, in the so-called Broca area, and when people speak or listen to a language their left brain is being active, however, the MRI taken while reading Sanskrit (even without understanding it) shows that both brain hemispheres work simultaneously.
